Beach check, step by step

The most optimal place to rig your kite is to be on a deserted, wide and long sandy beach without seashells / shrubs / sharp stones / glass splits. Preferably on a lawn to minimize the risk of damage to the equipment. In most cases, these conditions are a dream come true.

We need some surface to rig, launch and land the kite. The distance between the control bar and the kite itself is about 25 meters. So desirable is to have twice as much free space. But it is not necessary. In any case, we should make sure that lines and kites do not get caught in trees, benches, cars, signs or other people when we launch and land.

The best place to rig the kite is grass, it is most favorable to the equipment. Fine sand also works well, but the coarser or stony the beach is, the bigger risk that the kite will be punctured, get stick holes or tears.

If we do not have the perfect, crowded, wide and long grass / sandy beach then it does not matter so much, it is out on the water we should surf. It is more important how the bottom of the beach is. Long shallow sandy bottom is preferred. Then everything becomes safer and safer. It is nice to bottom and everything becomes easier to handle if, for example, the kite crashes into the water.

That the bottom is free of stones, reefs, seashells is nice, then we do not have to hurt or cut our feet. The board also feels better not to run on stones that are not visible from the surface.

Checklist for a good kite beach

  1. No restrictions, bird sanctuary or private land

  2. With a definite wind direction, does it become a safe onshore / side onshore / sideshore?

  3. Does the beach have shallow sandy bottom?

  4. Is it free from bathers, dogs, fences, power lines, benches, signs?

  5. Now you should have the answer where to go for kite surfing!

The special thing about Blekinge is

that there are a lots of islands offering kite surfing with an incredible natural experience. The archipelago is very wide but does not extend far out, which means that you quickly reach islands with a good stable wind.

In the eastern archipelago there are many low islands where the wind blows over the islands without creating turbulence in the wind.
